- Sunday, June 30, 2002 at 00:09:22 (PDT)What is this website? Who comes here??? I didn't even bother to read anything that's on here and I'm already bashing it. I don't even know if you are nice people or not but when you have a white background with black writing I'd rather read a newspaper. And don't bother writing back because I am never coming back to this place agian. I got here by typing coocoocaca in a search engine and it turns out that coocoocaca is one of your stupid email addresses. Well yeah you may think mine is stupid but actually it is just a parady of that fat,( and no I don't mean PH~fat, I mean fat FAT with loads of greese and crisco dripping out of their neck, fat) persons email address. Anyways I'm not trying to be mean or anything I just like doing spontaniously stupid things. In reality I love you all and if I could I would love to be your friends. Except Fatty.

Your story was cool and I could find some similarities...even in the ethical department anyway. Anyhow, when do you plan to update the site?

Delhi, India - Sunday, December 31, 2000 at 18:52:25 (PST)Textfiles.com -- read your file, got me thinking about the HeadQuarters BBS back in Maryland (or was it D.C.? Oh well)..I was running on a gutted CP/M system...8-Inch Tandon Shugart drives, *no* hard drive, in fact -- no case. The monitor had a collar of cardboard fastened with a big rubberband. The keyboard had no housing -- leaned up on a stack of Byte and 80-Micro magazines that the monitor was balanced upon. The whole thing was nailed to plywood. I was proud as hell of it -- even the noisy Diablo 360 Daisywheel printer (as loud as it was) just made my day...I kept that thing running non-stop....Hayes 1200 (I think it was a reject that my dad helped me repair...) I was born in '68, but I was using computers by 1976...1980's were a blur. I have fond memories of the Apple ][ and ][e - a multitude of games that I'm sure you have played....god...your whole story just took me back.
I do remember wondering when the net was really taking off -- how it would change everything...in a way, I felt like I was this lone IP in a sea of nodes...still do...I'm just happy you are running this site...it validates everything that a 'geek' can identify with...some kind of continuity that makes me feel less alone. Oh well -- I'm blubbering on here....keep going...and if you want to see my meager effort in website creation....here ya go.
Spew2
(was a .mp3 real-audio "show" site, but I've been busy lately..so..not much new posted now...but after seeing your site, maybe I've got to reconsider the content..)
Still remember dialing into long-distance test loops...aah..

Chicago, IL USA - Monday, November 20, 2000 at 17:07:15 (PST)Thanks to textfiles.com for pointing me to your site. Much like your last post, I too hit the tail end of the BBS age but let me tell you, what a wonderful age it is! With faster comps, lines, and software a few of us almost started a BBS just for the heck of it using Wildcat Software -- but it fell through (as to be expected). But I remeber when we used to phreak MaBell and got a 1-800 number for our local BBS! That was great! We had people calling from all over the US for a month till they figured out what was going on and shut that number down. I seriously doubt that the BBS's that I used to frequent are still around. Last time I tried to log onto a BBS, just for kicks, I got someone answering the phone. Memories. Oh well. Anyway, like the site and if anyone ever gets up an old BBS, post it and we'll log in.

Sacramento, Ca USA - Monday, October 30, 2000 at 11:48:58 (PST)Nice site, I got here from www.textfiles.com. I too remember the BBS days, although I just caught the tail end of that era (I'm 21). I visit www.textfiles.com semi-regularly, and it kind of makes me sad to realize that 99% of the people currently using computers have never and will give a damn about the BBS scene. Needless to say, I liked this site and your piece on textfiles.com. Oh, and my first crack was for a little-known game for Tandy-compatibles called VGA Golf. I removed the disk protection using assembly language in DOS Debug :)

the site looks cool and all, but what with the pages that say "check back in a few days" but are dated in 1998? if youd like help keeping you site updated i'd be gald to pitch in (i understand you are busy, and vuln-dev is more important). but i like the nostalgic 'about' page, but i would love to see the 'tools' updated.

My host (webking.com) hasn't given me any trouble as of yet. On another note, If you are interested I'd like to design your site. Lol, nothing against the current layout, just a thought. I'd do it for free of course (gosh!) You can check out some of the work I've allready done here: http://209.113.74.45/index.html

With e-commerce and other computerized systems becoming more
and more prominent, the need for white hat hackers is growing.
I just hope that society can realize this is a valuable resource and
attempt to tap it for the good of all parties concerned.
